Back on track
Mine started with weigh in where I stayed exactly the same and I'm going to take that as a blessing as I'm fairly certain I'm PMSing right now that I also like to refer to as snackapalooza.
I decided not to go to Zumba today and instead try to squeak in my long run for the week. That was rather ambitious as I do walk to weigh in and back and add in wandering around Walmart that already counts for some distance.
I managed to do 6 miles this afternoon I was supposed to do 7 miles. According to my FitBit I did 10 miles all together and
I walked 20,000 steps today and got a badge with Fitbit! fitbit.com/user/24LLC9 #Fitstats so I'll count that as a win.
The back on track part was I had a goal to do 3 half marathons in 2013. I opted not to do the one I had signed up for in February as the winter weather i.e. ice and too much treadmill time sort of messed up my training. I learned to stick to short distances in the winter and go for longer distances in the spring/summer and fall.
Today I signed up for the Stampede Half Marathon other wise known as the Stampede Road Race, of course my city is pretty famous for it's Calgary Stampede. The race takes place on July 7th, so still about 8 weeks before the Disneyland Half and about 8 weeks after the Calgary Scotiabank Half. The other interesting thing about this race is it's capped at 1850 participants. I'm sort of used to thousands at all the other runs I've done.
This makes me super motivated to train better as depending how this goes I may just try for a full marathon again next year. Perhaps even the Dopey Disney Run which is a 5K, 10K, Half and Full in 4 days and gets you 6 medals, that would be more of a long term goal for January 2015.
I still need to get through the Dumbo in September. I did the 5K and Half on the same day at Disney Wine and Dine so one never knows.
Tomorrow is rest day but will involve housecleaning.
On Monday I think I'll head the gym for the weight class and yoga, then on Tuesday go to Zumba before the Bon Jovi concert and get a short training run in on Monday.
I start going to Edmonton on Mondays as of April 15th with super late flights back to site so Monday will no longer be run day. I need rejig my training plan.
I feeling pumped.
Happy Easter.

Wipeout
I did hit the treadmill on Monday and challenged myself to stay on there while I did my camp laundry. So that meant staying on during the wash and dry cycle.
I did it.
No speed medals but I technically completed the training I was supposed to do on Sunday.
My FitBit was impressed.
The weather is definitely warming up which is a nice change. Up at site we have exactly 3 seasons - snow, mud and dust. Looks like mud is starting to kick in.
Which means I can retire by poor site Sorels, they're starting to crack but they held up well to almost 4 years of Northern Alberta winters, now my mud/dust season hiking boots must also be retired this year so I got some shopping to do.
I did buy a cute more city pair of Sorel's (pink) that if I am at site another winter will do in a pinch. The latest news on my return to the Calgary office is sometime around Christmas. I do know that could change on a dime.
Tuesday and Wednesday were 13 hour days due to late meetings so no gym time and of course I flew home on Thursday. Normally I would run/walk again on Wednesday.
I do have to say the sunsets are pretty darn spectacular the further you are away of civilization.
And you can see the mud season effect on the buses. There's still a monster amount of snow to melt up there so I expect a long mud season.
Now to my title, it was beautiful today so I headed out for a run walk feeling great. I was about 20 minutes in where I adjusted my form to be more chi-running (leaning forward) then my foot hit a crack in the sidewalk and I went dooowwwwnnnnn. I tried to gain my balance but no go. I'm not hurt but I scraped up my palms and saw that the skin was broken. So I cut my run short so I could go home and wash my hands. I then discovered the impressive bruise on elbow. My knee came out unscathed as I had felt I scraped that as well.
Tomorrow is weigh in and a return to Zumba, with another run/walk planned for Sunday.
I have extra long weekend as I'm taking Monday and Tuesday off. Did I mention I'm going to Bon Jovi?
I plan to check out some classes at the gym that I normally can't take as I'm not here.
I do hope all of you had an amazing week!
Hugs!!!

No run mojo
Let's go back to yesterday where I tracked all that ate after I ate it and my treat day turned into a disaster pretty much using the bulk of my weekly points. I was guesstimating and I guessed pretty wrong. I do have a challenge with weekends.
Now move on today where I probably wasn't fueled so well for 6 miles. I lasted 4.62 miles. My Gym boss died after the 2nd run interval and I really didn't want to look at my watch constantly so I winged it. Well winging caused my chins to be angry so I switched to walking.
I'm happy I went out as it took a whole lot of mental effort, I went out a few hours after breakfast as I was waiting for the weather to warm up a little, now that was probably a mistake as well as at mile 4 my stomach was grumbling like crazy.
So when I got back I planned out my day in advance and I did the same thing for tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll plan out Tuesday.
There has been a lack of plans lately and that needs to change. Particularly my planning on the weekends, as have 3 days a week that are fairly unstructured I need to add structure. My work week is almost easier as I have a pretty set routine.
As of April 1, I'll need to go to Edmonton once a week, then fly back to site then fly home. This is just for the next few months and planning will be super important.
I know I can do this, I will do this.
Hugs!!

I am an efficient napper
I have noticed an interesting trend, I'm definitely a tosser and a turner based on the data it can range from close to 10 times to over 20 times a night.
However when I nap I'm super steady.
Only 2 interruptions during yesterdays nap. I tend to nap at least once over the weekend.
Only woke up once during the nap but super tossed and turned with 23 interruptions
Then here it was 3 times vs 21 times overnight.
Apart from napping I did go to weigh in today and suspected I'd see a gain. I was up 1 lb, it could have been worse. It was a wild week with unexpected late meetings and then working in Calgary for a day where it just reminded me that I'm to be back in the corporate head in roughly 6 - 8 months with still no clue as to what the job will be. So when I got home on Thursday I wanted chocolate. I bring Hershey kisses to work at site as it encourages people to come talk to scary HR. I never dig into the bags at home until this Thursday. I managed to make some series damage in little foil packets.
I also didn't earn quite as many activity points last week. My WW source says Activelink is coming to Canada and I'm still intrigued even though I have the FitBit. I really like the determining your base line and aiming for over that.
The good news it's a new week and I have 6 miles on the training schedule tomorrow. The weather should be o.k, with windchill near -10c.
The meeting was as per usual with the my ridiculous leader. We talked about drinks so she took us through a painful exercise listing what we drank during breakfast, lunch, dinner and social. The painful part was there didn't seem to be any point in the exercise.
She then asked who had plans for Easter, who was going to friends and then I was shocked to hear her say "Who doesn't celebrate Easter". A few people put up their hands when she realized she shouldn't have asked that. I was floored as that was hugely inappropriate.
Towards the end of the meeting she said she would have done the topic differently but had to do it this way. I do hope Weight Watchers Int'l starts the training of the franchisee leaders soon. There was a line at weigh in with only one scale open as she was chatting with one woman at one of the scales.
There's another plus to coming back to Calgary is I'd have more choice of meetings but for now the Saturday morning one just works best for me.
As I left the meeting to go over to Walmart I walked past this
Note the bunny ears and cotton tail on the Volkswagen....too cute

Sometimes you need convenience - Smart Ones
Earlier this week I was contacted to see if I'd be interested in writing a little bit about Weight Watchers Smart Ones. I quite like Smart Ones so I said sure and in full disclosure they did offer to pay me for this.
If you're not familiar with Smart Ones, here is a link to their Facebook page Eat Your Best Canada
As I travel a lot having something convenient, fast and tasty to prepare makes my life a wee easier especially as the points are right on the box so no calculator needed. For example when I fly out on Mondays I need to pack my lunch so I quite often take this one:
I love Fettucini Alfredo and pre Weight Watchers it was probably one of my favourite choices at a restaurant (at up to 30 Points Plus per serving) so I was pretty happy to find a version that was far lower in points. This is also an option for me when I fly home and need to put together a quick dinner. If I make it at home I'll add some steamed broccoli as there's a good amount of sauce. This one is by far my favourite Smart Ones.
Today I decided to try something I've never tried before....Smart Ones morning
On my way to weigh in I swing by Tim Horton's and pretty much order this for the exact same amount of points. So having it handy in my freeze was appealing and two come in the box.
It looked like this out of the box. Cooking instructions were easy as all I had to do was take it out of the plastic, wrap it in a paper towel and microwave for 1:15 minutes then let it sit for 30 seconds flip it over and microwave for 25 seconds and tada:
I added the tomatoes for a little colour.
Taste wise it was pretty good, certainly different then a freshly toasted English muffin but it did come out of the freezer. I would keep this on hand even for a quick dinner as sometimes I have a breakfast food for dinner.
I'm certainly impressed with all the different options available in Smart Ones so check them out on Facebook just click the link Eat Your Best Canada.
Do you use Weight Watchers Smart Ones and if you do which one is your favourite?
Hugs!!

Can't believe it's almost been a week
Let me back up to Saturday, there were no evident changes in the meeting since it was purchased by Weight Watchers Int'l. I suspect they will come.
Had a great weigh in as I was down 1.8 lb. So that meant not only did I get rid of the damage of my co-workers goodbye party which caused me to avoid weigh in the week before but I also beat my last recorded weigh in from 2 weeks ago.
Then I went to the gym and did the 5 miles for my training plan, it was brutal as the treadmill resets every half an hour but I did it.
On Monday I got contacted to see if I wanted to do a review of Smart Ones by a marketing agency and I accepted the task. That will be tomorrow's post so stay tuned.
Of course Monday was also the Biggest Loser finale.
Now I know Gina wasn't the most popular contestant but I couldn't help but cheer her on. I really like to see the people over the age of 30 and 40 succeed (inspiration) and she definitely came around.
Not surprised Danni won but wowsers by just 1 pound was a shocker of a moment. She was a beast and I say that with the utmost respect. She got out of her own way and succeeded. Original source of the photos was realitynation.com.
What I'd love to see from this franchise is another where are they now specials.
Tuesday I hit the treadmill again and it was a rough run as I have late meetings on Tuesdays. I stuck it out for 30 min which follows the minimum of my training plan. On Monday I had an unexpected late meeting and got back to my room just in time for the Biggest Loser finale.
Flew home on Wednesday and thought we might not take off as a winter storm warning blew in. It was crazy it was the first time in the almost 5 years I've been flying for work that they told us to the hold hand rail on the way into the airplane. However we made it and it was gorgeous in Calgary with +12 and sunny.
Today I headed into the Calgary office as I had meetings, the weather sure shifted as it was snowing with cold wind. Today was also the day I had the coffee date with the guy from Jr. High. This is the one the psychic thought was the immature person in my life.
The coffee was o.k, we talked for the whole hour and had some laughs. I could tell when we first me he sort of sized me up. He told all about his past relationships which I wasn't expecting as I was thinking this was coffee with a friend. Not sure what will come of it if anything but it was a pleasant chat.
Had plans to leave the office by 4:15, that turned out to be an hour later and when I got to my home station I thought I might as well do some grocery shopping tonight as tomorrow the wind chills are double digits.
All in all a good week, I do hope all of you had a good week.
Hugs!!!

Kind of like week 1
I tracked all 7 days, I earned 36 AP this week. Water could have been better. Now I wait to see how it goes at WI tomorrow.
Curious to see if there any changes yet with my meeting now being owned by Weight Watchers Int'l and not a franchisee.
Actually followed my half marathon plan this week as well. Funny what happens when you just focus. Though on non run days I did yoga, I really need to get more diligent with strength training. My plan for tomorrow is to run at the gym as we have a lovely cold snap then go to iron reps. I'll skip Zumba for the run this week. I think I'll do the zumba dvd on Sunday.
The positive self talk is a work in progress, I did a better job this week of cutting off the negativity.
Work wise it was a good week too. I went in for a meeting today even though it was my day off and I could of phoned in. Since I was there anyway I also helped out a new co-worker. Plus it really worked out because I could pick up my team winter jacket. Now the winter jacket is a long and lean style so it fits now but not enough for a big sweater or hoody. Hopefully we are in the tail end of winter so this jacket will be an interesting NSV measure.
Today I roasted a spaghetti squash but differently then I've done before. I roasted the whole squash, no cutting just stabbing it so it could vent when cooking. I put in on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil, in a 375 degree oven for 120 min. When it's cool, cut it open scoop out the seeds and run a fork through it to release the strands of spaghetti squash.
I will never make it another way again. This was so ridiculously easy and I did all the cutting and scooping on the aluminum foil so clean up was a snap. Why couldn't I have found this way sooner.
Still working my way through Feel the Fear and do it Anyway.
Other than that it's all good.
I do hope all of you had a super fabulous week.
Hugs!!!

Fear Truths
I woke up at 4 am today and just tossed and turned so I switched on a light and started reading Feel The Fear and Do it Anyway by Dr. Susan Jeffers. I read for about 30 min then went back to sleep and judging by my FitBit my second sleep was a lot more productive then the first time.
As I fell back asleep I thought about the Fear Truths listed in the book.
1. The fear will never go away as I continue to grow
2. The only way to get rid of the fear of doing something is to go out and do it
3. The only way to feel better about myself is to go out...and do it.
4. Not only am I going to experience fear whenever I'm on unfamiliar territory, but so is everyone else
5. Pushing through fear is less frightening than living the underlying fear that comes from a feeling of helplessness
Now it's going to take me awhile to work my way through this book but I tracked yesterday and I tracked today. In the spirit of #3 today I headed out for a 4 mile run/walk. My last run/walk was January 28th, every time I've headed out since it's just been walking. There's nothing wrong with just walking but today I decided to reintroduce 1 min of running with 1:30 of walking. It felt great, a little treacherous as there where some icy patches so to evade it broke into something that looked like hopscotch.
I'm going to message my Facebook friend to meet up for coffee next time in the Calgary office.
I'm going to run again tomorrow, then on Tuesday use that awesome crossfit app that Coffee Cake and Cardio introduced me to called WOD Genius and then on Wednesday run again.
So with that I leave you for now and hope you have a fantastic week ahead.
Hugs!!!

Blocked chakra and fear?
It's never a good thing when I don't blog in a week. Not to say I had anything particularly interesting to say but again I blog for me like an online diary and when I don't I know I'm crawling into my shell.
This was my first week in a few that I did my regular work schedule of a full 4 days at site. I was busy as the two weeks before not being at site set me a little behind.
I talk to my boss every Monday as we have a regular standing touch base meeting. She was telling me about an upcoming appointment with a psychic. I've been to psychic's before and acknowledge there are those who don't buy into and do believe in this but I won't pass judgement as we are entitled to our own beliefs.
Well a few days later she told me about the appointment and had good things to say about this person so this conversation got me thinking. I asked for their contact info and booked an appointment of my own and booked it for Friday.
The rest of the week flew by and I was utterly exhausted every night so no workouts just straight back to my room at the end.
Thursday when we flew home we were going to dinner as a goodbye get together for one of our work friends who's leaving us. We went to Buffalo Wild Wings close to the airport. I don't do bones but luckily Thursday is boneless wings night. I realized this would so not WW friendly but at that moment I opted to throw caution to the wind and just enjoy myself.
Well we all got a boot of Steam Whistle beer that's a litre (roughly 2 pints) of beer and ate a bunch of wings. We were narrowly kicked out by the manager as our outgoing co-worker had 2.5 boots and was enjoying himself a little loudly. All in all it was quite fun and so many laughs. Now I knew that I'd be skipping WI as there was no way I'd undo the damage by Saturday morning. Agree or disagree but it felt like the right decision.
So we now land on Friday and my appointment with the psychic.
It was interesting, she nailed my insecurities about my upcoming job change, picked up on the guy I went to junior high with who's been asking me for coffee on Facebook and said something that struck home.
She said stop feeling fear and just go with it about the job, about the love life and about my goals.
For the longest time I've been feeling a block and she helped me label it - it's fear.
Fear of succeeding at weight loss
Fear of failing at weight loss
Fear of falling in love
Fear of being alone forever
Fear of failure
Fear of success
Fear of not succeeding
She asked me if I was currently interested in anyone and I couldn't answer. Based on what I do I always I feel I need to keep a little distance and I just keep that going outside of work as well. I then explained that I've always been a little clueless. I translate a guy flirting with me as being nice not interested. She told me my heart chakra was blocked. I know a little about chakra, as it's similar to Chi or Prana.
She gave me a mantra:
I'm active, attractive and in demand under grace in the perfect way
I told her my fear is probably tied to self esteem and then she said I had great self esteem. I supposed I do project that but don't necessarily feel it.
Afterward I remembered I had a book.
I've had this forever and based on folded corner never got past page 27. I think it's time to revisit.
This week my goal is to focus on positive actions and energy.

Ch..ch..changes
At the start of the meeting she said "You might have heard the franchise has been sold"
I immediately picked up my phone and looked for Weightwatchers Alberta under news. There I found the Q4 results for Weightwatchers Int'l and it looks like they bought the franchisee for Alberta and Saskatchewan in January.
This makes me incredibly happy as I have always thought this franchisee was stuck in the dark ages. For example you can't get the monthly pass in SK or AB, nor the pedometer and goodness knows what else they haven't provided. Not to mention there's not a single Sunday meeting in a city that has over 1 million people.
This also means if Activelink is launched in Canada we in Alberta and Saskatchewan can actually buy it as I would have bet on the franchisee not carrying it. They never seem to embrace anything technical i.e. the pedometer.
The weigh in itself is what I expected a gain of 2.4 since my last WI two weeks ago. My fault and I'll fix it.
I got a new weigh in book and made a vow to myself to treat WW with priority no different then going to work.
Ridiculous leader was better today and the meeting room was packed. At one point she said "We aren't athletes so can't eat like them" I just shook my head at this. Of course we're athletes. We are athletes of life and no we can't eat what an elite athlete is but we can certainly look at food as fuel instead of a method to deposit our emotions - that's my M.O.
After WW I went to the gym and did a 15 warm up on the bike then 45 min of Zumba, and add in the 40 min walk there and back it was a good AP day.
We've got winter storm warnings for tomorrow so we'll see what happens and if I can make it to Tai Chi, I'm already planning plan B of workout dvds just in case.
Now I'm even more geeked to go to meetings to see when/if we see any changes with now belonging to the mother ship.
I think we're the horizon of something great.

Le sigh
This whole not knowing what my next role is seriously bugging me as I spent two days with my replacement. I was at an HR training and now some other Advisors so they were asking when I was coming back to Calgary and shared my confusion about not knowing where I'd go. Plus this week I had to terminate someone and then go into 2 days of training that requires participation. I'm shy and don't like to sound stupid so the training situation stressed me out a little.
So my food decisions were off, and my coffee intake was up. I stepped on the scale when I got home and the number shocked me. It showed me I need structure and accountability.
I went for 4 miles around the neighbourhood to shake off the negativity and focus on positivity and planning next week.
I did start re-reading Shrink Yourself and going through it slower this time around.
I do really like this book as it delves more into why you do the things you do, like go completely off plan do to feeling stressed.
Today I watched Biggest Loser and a few contestants resonated with me. Strangely enough it was Gina, I don't have total melt downs like she does and she strikes me as high maintenance but when she was in that coffin saying I don't want to die and I have a second chance that hit home.
I still have a second chance, or third or forth or fifth or so on. It makes me think how the majority of my WW meeting has people who rejoined for a 2nd or 3rd time.
That's the essence of the human spirit - perseverance.
I ordered the Aria scale and it arrived today.
It syncs with FitBit and the app. It also measures body fat which I haven't tracked in quite some time.
Funnily enough this week I start a new tracker and I think I'll ask for a new weigh in book tomorrow. A clean start.
The Progress not Perfection challenge restarted, that's the tracking challenge run by the fabulous @IrishEyes1982 and you can see it on twitter under #PNPtrackstar. You don't need to be on WW to join either.
So I'm dusting myself off and going back to basics. I control what I do and I want to be healthy.
Hugs!!!

Time flies
Well on Monday I managed to leave without it as I had to make a run for the bus. I did walk home everyday this week from the c-train station so that's a little over a mile and 82 stairs.
The week itself was busy but we got tons done in the 3 days of meetings. I wound up going into the office on Friday even though it was my day off as I had so much to catch up on.
My attention was to only stay until lunch as I was having lunch with some friends but no I didn't leave till 3 pm. By the time I got home I was knackered. I even went to bed early.
This morning my alarm went off for catching the bus to work time which is sooner then I would get up for weigh in so I leaned over and tapped the alarm thinking I should reset it and then I fell back asleep immediately.
I slept through weigh in...dumb, dumb, dumb. I should have set the alarm the night before.
I'm obviously needed the rest.
Today I headed out for 6 miles around the neighbourhood, I walked it today as I had no running mojo but had a pretty good pace going and still covered the mileage required for my training plan.
Next week is an amazing race week for me. I need to fly to Edmonton Monday morning, then back to site Monday night, then bus it to Fort MacMurray Tuesday night and fly back home Thursday night.
I'm in the last week of my 3 month tracker and it's probably the first one I've finished in an incredibly long time.
Tomorrow Tai Chi picks up again.
Hope you all had a great week

A change in routine this week
However today I totally misjudged the weather and got around the block before and felt super cold so I cut it short today. It was probably best to take a break today anyway. It was a quick trip around the block due to being cold.
What I did do today that I haven't done in a long time is pack a gym bag as I'm working in the corporate office all week. Tomorrow I'll be hauling my computer back pack and my lululemon gym bag. Normally I go to the gym 4 doors down from my camp room so I change then go. When I'm at home I go ready to workout. I haven't done the pack stuff and change when I get there in a very long time. It's funny I thought I was packed and then remembered hair band and elastic, then water bottle, then workout towel.
Running tomorrow lines up with half training better anyway. I planned it so I don't run two days in a row.
I'm going to be in a 3 day meeting and Wednesday is our social activity which means bowling (yeah something active) and dinner at a steak place.
In fact I'll also be dealing with catered lunches for the next 3 days, so I'll focus on configuring the plate for example 1/2 veggies/ salad and water, water, water.
On Thursday I'll bring the gym bag again.
It's going to be a real test this week. I'm feeling confident thought. I can do this.
Hope you all have a great week!

Walking, walking everywhere
I returned to my WW meeting today after my self imposed pity exile last week. I know that skipping a meeting is never the answer. When I went to weigh in I handed over 2 weigh in coupons, the scale lady said I should just pay the registration fee but I said no I'm facing the consequence of not coming last week. You can't have goals without consequences.
The scale gave me a -.2 since my last WW weigh in 2 weeks ago and down 1.6 lbs since my weigh in at home last week.
I'm cool with that but now more determined then ever to get back on track.
Today I had a hair appointment at Aveda but was early so I swung by the Bay for tights as I'm working in the Calgary office next week and need to get my corporate on.
I also picked up Jillian Michael's new book Slim For Life.
I'm not too far into it yet. I first downloaded it on my Kobo but after a few chapters I realized I want to own this one. It's structured in a no nonsense kind of way and I've already picked up on an aha moment. Jillian suggests instead of a cheat day have a cheat meal, o.k that's not new. She suggests not counting in days but counting in meals going after the 80/20 rule. I'm intrigued.
Then it was off for new hair and after that I hiked up to Lululemon (18 blocks there and back) so I could use the gift certificate I got for Christmas. I was after sports bras as I'm discovering there is a difference. I have one bra from them the Ta Ta Tamer, love it. I also really like the new Under Armor but Lululemon is $10 cheaper, shocking hey. Well I get there and they don't have my size so the girl suggested going up a cup size so I tried it on and that works.
I then went back to the downtown mall and had lunch. I went to Arby's and had half a Great Canadian and a third of the curly fries. I made sure to be mindful and put it down after every bite.
I then walked through the revamped Devonian Gardens. I spent a lot of time in Devonian Gardens as a kid and when I got my first job downtown, it's literally a park on the 3rd floor of the downtown mall.
It used to be more stand alone but the mall has gone through some major renos and it now flows off the food court. It's a little oasis.
Direct quote from the city's website: Devonian Gardens, in the downtown Core Shopping Centre, has officially re-opened. Experience the 10,000 shrubs, 1.5 million pounds of soil and the 550 trees used to re-create this "tropical oasis".
You can feed giant Gold Fish, or at least I think that's what they are. I fed them as a kid as you can buy fish food from little machines near by.
There's cute fountains. It's pretty serene I saw loads of people studying, playing cards or just reading.
There's beautiful trees even in the dead of winter.
Indigenous Art is everywhere
The main park is on the 3rd floor but on either side you can go down levels if you want a quiet space. When I worked in the mall a bizillion years ago these little side parts where my favourite place to go to enjoy a coffee and a book.
There's even an indoor playground, again pretty handy when it's wicked wind chill. This is a lot different from the old one but they look they're having fun The only thing that didn't come back was the indoor skating rink which I spent loads of time on as a kid.
Right off the food court there's little seating areas by these plant walls, a nice alternative if you don't want to sit in the main part of the food court.
You can gaze on the myriad of Plus 15s, those are the pedestrian bridges that go across the street, they're called Plus 15 because they're 15 feet off the ground. Super handy when you work downtown and it's -30C and also handy when it's +30C. Started in the 1960's but now span the majority of downtown as they pretty much go up with every new building. You can't really see due to the window covering but there are least 4 bridges in this picture.
I then headed home and tackled the C-Train station stairs.
62 steps in all and always make a point of taking them instead of the escalator. I'll have to keep these in mind as a workout option for a stair workout.
By the way so far today I did the equivalent of 25 flights of stairs which is a new FitBit milestone for me and 6.25 miles of steps.
Here's to a fabulous week ahead!!!
Hugs!!!

Going Dark
When a weight loss blogger disappears one tends to think they've fallen off the wagon and that's what happened to me.
Why off the wagon? I have yet to learn how to deal with emotions.
This whole job thing was driving me more nuts then I wanted to admit. I went in to the office on Friday and met my replacement. Well the email came out last Monday that we had a new member on the team and I got emails asking what the story was.
It bothered me that there's a plan for the new person, a plan for my co-worker but no plan for me. The root of all this is there going down to one HR person at site. In all fairness the original plan was to do no more then 36 months at site so I knew I would go back to Calgary eventually. I'm bothered because no one can tell me where I'm going.
Now my replacement is here and I will be expected to transition which I would any way but I'd feel better about it if I knew I had a job in Calgary.
Now I've been told people have my back, have I mentioned I have trust issues.
Well on Friday I met her and I think she's great. We had a team lunch then I walked her to her office. She asked me if I was looking forward to going back to the Calgary office. I then wondered if she knew more then I knew. My brain can be dangerous when I start to over think.
Well Friday was also after work drinks courtesy of my boss' boss so 3 vodka paralyzers later I walked home from the train station in a funk.
I blew off weigh in as I purposely didn't set my alarm.
Saturday was a baby shower. Sunday was my 2nd Tai Chi class. Funk continued.
Today I had a regular call with my boss and told her it was seriously bugging me. It's the season to set goals for 2013 and knowing I won't finish the year supporting this group had me stalled with this process. She assured me nothing to worry about. No changes till Q4 and goodness knows lots can happen in the future.
The funk is lifting. I watched BL and always get inspired with something someone says.
Tonight the words mediocre or elite stuck with me.
I choose elite so back to basics and focusing on what I can control.

Reckless
I tracked on the weekend but it went sideways starting on Monday. Monday was a long day as I was up at 3:30 am and in a meeting until 8 pm. We had a co-worker visit us up at site on Monday so we took her for lunch in the camp kitchen. Normally I pack my lunch on Mondays. I don't go for lunch in the camp kitchen as healthy is a challenge and it can set me up for a bad day.
I started Monday with trying the new version of my breakfast sandwich and once again got half down before tossing it. I'm thinking a protein shake might be a better option for such an early breakfast after a few hours of sleep and just waking up.
Tuesday was a whirlwind as I was flying home that day. It turned a wee stressful for me as well. By the end of 2013 I should be starting a new job but I have no idea what that job will be. Well it will be more or less what I do now but supporting a different group. New boss had hired my replacement, these are her words. Those words cause a little uneasiness as again no idea where I'm going and I don't think they know that yet. I do know my replacement and I will at some point be spending a few months together as I transition to her I just hope I know where I'm going by then or that will feel super awkward.
I'm a planner, so being in the dark is driving me a little bonkers. I try to relax and just trust in the process as my boss's boss tells me he has my back. New boss told me I was being shopped around. I saw boss's boss a few weeks ago and he asked me how I was doing. I told him I was apparently being shopped. He paused and said that's not the message I should be receiving and this was all about development. Hmm..new boss certainly has a way with words.
At any rate flew home Tuesday and get a whole 6 days of sleeping in my own bed. The Eric Church concert was fantastic and he seemed to be genuinely happy with the response he received from the crowd. The opening act was Colt Ford and I had no idea who he was. I think he started as a song writer. Every time he preformed a song he dropped a name of who he worked with on it. It was a kind of funny.
Today I was supposed to go to a seminar that I signed up for and paid for myself but yesterday I was looking around my house and every surface was covered with something. So today I decided to stay home and get sorted. A chaotic environment doesn't help me. Dusting and vacuuming are done. Now I'm doing laundry and then steam clean anything that can't go into the washer.
The other day I ventured into trying to sell my bib for the Hypo Half. Now I've never done that before and had a potential buyer. I contacted her yesterday and she was mentioning I change it to her name but I wanted the gym bag so I need to pick it up. In the end she wasn't going to be able to make the run so I probably won't sell it but I did decide kind of last minute to not do the run so I'll suck it up.
On Wednesday I went baby shower shopping and went a little crazy. I adore the mom to be and at one point I put stuff back only to turn a corner and see something she had to have.
Saturday is the shower and then a bunch of us are going roller skating. I haven't roller skated since I was 13. Should be interesting and not sure I'll be brave enough to actually skate but we shall see.
Friday I'm going into work even though it's my day off as I have lots to do and taking the last two days off but me a little behind.
In the meantime I'm taming the reckless and tweaking the focus.
Hugs!!!

1st Tai Chi class
In the spring and summer I pass a house on my way to weigh in were a little old lady will be doing Tai Chi on her balcony.
I had researched classes before but none really worked for my crazy fly in fly out schedule but low and behold my gym was going to offer a class so I signed up.
It started today and I was happy to see the instructor was Chinese, though people all over the world practice Tai Chi it just would have felt funny if she was a bouncy blond with blue eyes. It turns out Yen learned Tai Chi from her Grandfather and then studied extensively in China.
She spoke very broken English but I got the jist of what she was saying and it was kind of profound. We all have Chi (Qi) described as our life force but we live in a hectic world and on auto pilot so we forget our Chi and don't foster it.
I once had a Chinese massage which is supposed to work on your Chi and when I got off the table I was wicked woosy so I think there's something to this. Multiple cultures have a word for ones life force that gives more emphasis then the English language does.
We worked on the first 2 moves and there are 24 in all and this was the first of 6 classes. I'm going to need to practice a little before the next class. At one point we were doing a standing meditation where you focus on your head, eyes, mouth, chest and so on. You have your eyes closed but at one point I heard someone take 2 very quick steps then wham they just crumpled to the floor. She looked young and was fine just a little shaken. We were standing for awhile and that can do wonky things to you.
It was a small class maybe 12 people but I think that's a good thing as it's easier to see her and for her to correct your movements. After the class we asked her to run through the whole sequence so we could see it, it was beautiful and I hope I can get this down to keep getting better.
Before the class I did 4 miles on the treadmill as that was my long run for this week. The treadmills at the gym shake so at one point I just walked it out at a quick pace and incline.
I will focus on keeping my long runs on Friday or Saturday.
Tomorrow it's up at 3:30 am and I pre made a breakfast sandwich again. Last week I couldn't finish it but I think that was because the bagel thin was a little soggy and dense after being microwaved as a complete sandwich. This week I'll use an English muffin and kept the egg and Canadian bacon wrapped separately so I'll toast the muffin and nuke the egg/bacon.
It's going to be an incredibly long day tomorrow as I have meetings until 7 pm. I'm planning my day out to include snacks to keep me going.
I fly home on Tuesday as I'm going to the Eric Church concert on Wednesday.
Well I hope you all had a great Sunday.
Hugs!!!

An all over the place week
I knew this week would be different due to having to be in Fort McMurray Wednesday night, fly home Thursday 2 hrs later then normal and go into the office on Friday.
Monday was great - I got a great run in while watching Biggest Loser. Our bunk has a little gym that's just down the hall from my camp room. I've never seen it that full. It has a treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike, a bench and free weights. I was on the treadmill and a guy was on the bike. He watches BL so we talked a little about it while we were both working out. He agreed with my surprise the Blue team keeps surviving for a bunch of lazy complainers though still love Bob. Then one girl came and did the elliptical for a few minutes to be replace by a co-worker I know who wasn't familiar with BL so we explained it. I stayed on the treadmill for 60 min as I was timing myself to my laundry.
Tuesday I messed up. I had changed a meeting invite that's supposed to start on Feb. 12 well I goofed and it updated the meeting for this Tuesday. So I facilitated a surprise (to me) meeting. I have to admit supporting all men can be rough and I felt a wee bit picked on so after the meeting I went straight back to my camp room to re-energize.
Wednesday it was a 2 hr bus ride to Fort McMurray. At the hotel I opted for a burger and ate half but then I had the Jack n' Bananas. It was banana cheesecake deep fried in wrap with bourbon ice cream. The ice cream was a very mini scoop but I ate 3/4 of the deep fried cheesecake and then felt off. The hotel gym was open 7 am - 11 pm. Well the dessert was a mistake killed working out that night. We had to be out the door by 7:30 am. Why can't hotels have 24 hr gyms?
Thursday was an all day meeting in a meeting room that was positively freezing, the majority of people had their jackets on and we're talking winter parkas as it was a balmy -35C in Fort Mac. One girl had her mitts on. I don't if it was because it was cold or what but it was a foodapalooza for everyone. It finally warmed up as we were getting ready to leave. I didn't get home till 9 pm.
Friday I had to go into the office. Now my old boss would have given me a day off in lieu as I work a compressed work week so Mon - Thurs. New boss not so much, felt it was entirely acceptable to have me work for free, now I did volunteer to come in on Friday as it's so much easier then messing with flight changes. I get the feeling I'll be working a lot of free Fridays.
So weigh in today we had yet another sub and this one is not one of my favourites. She's like a grade school teacher who talks at you and comes off very stern. The meeting didn't respond to her at all and conversations were at a minimum. I was up .2 again and totally deserve it but I need to stop this roller coaster.
No normally I'd go to Zumba today but the weather was so nice +7C that I wanted to go outside so I went for 4 mile walk around my neighbourhood. The 4 mile walk plus the walk to weigh in, grocery shopping and the walk back made it a great activity day.
Tomorrow I start Tai Chi at the gym and I'm very much looking forward to it. I'm going to go early and get a run in first. On Monday I changed my interval to 1 min run, 1.5 min walk and it was awesome. I also find it's better when I wear my gym boss and just use the vibration as a signal to switch rather then watching the time tick down.
So this week the goal is back to basics as I'm bound and determined to have a good loss next Saturday. I have some challenges next week I actually fly home on Tuesday as I have a concert on Wednesday. This means I can check out classes at the gym during the day on Wednesday. Thursday I'm going to 2 hr seminar, so I can workout out around that and it's not a food event. Friday is a team lunch as we have a new hire in our group so I'll bring a gym bag and go after lunch.
I did decide to not do the Hypothermic Half and go to my friend's baby shower instead. I need to rethink races in Winter that need training in the coldest months. Now my training is completely focused on the Half in May and then Dumbo Double Dare in September.
Hope all of you had a good week.
Hugs!!!

Weigh In mystery solved
I took today as a rest day as I am crazy sore especially in my quads, here I was saying my lower body is stronger then my upper body.
I think the Zumba made it worse but it's all good it just means those muscles were working.
Tomorrow I fly to work and that alarm is going off at 3:30 am. I decided to try a different strategy for breakfast. I try to eat before I leave as I won't get to my desk till 8 am and that's too many hours to not eat anything. Today I made a breakfast sandwich which consisted of a bagel thin, egg, 2 slices Canadian Bacon and a slice of Velveeta Thin. I made a second one to reheat in the microwave tomorrow morning.
It hit me as when ever I get a breakfast sandwich from Starbucks or Tim Hortons there just reheating the precooked egg. Instead of Velveeta I put a bit of Light Tex Mex cheese as I thought that would handle the microwave better.
I'm also thinking the protein will keep me full longer. I've done oatmeal before but my stomach starts grumbling when the bus pulls up to my office building.
On Wednesday I need to grab the bus to Fort McMurray (a 2 hr bus ride) so I have to bring an overnight bag with me. I'm staying in a hotel overnight as I need to go to a meeting on Thursday. I opted to pack a bag instead of bringing stuff from my camp room as then when I come home on Thursday I just unpack instead of hauling everything back up. I looked at the weather and Fort Mac is supposed to have a low of -35C/ -31F on Wednesday - awesome.
My flight home on Thursday is 2 hrs later then usual so I'll have to be super on my game with a day and a half of eating out so close to weigh in. At least the Fort Mac airport has a Subway.
I have pre-tracked Monday up until supper as I have no idea what the camp kitchen will be offering. I'll most likely grab something from the pack lunch kitchen like a pb&j sandwich to eat after I run.
This is on the menu for tomorrow night
Dinner
CHICKEN ORZO SOUP
CORN & CRAB CHOWDER SOUP
1/4 BBQ CHICKEN

Hope you all had a great Sunday.

Say what?
I was shocked to see a .2 gain at weigh in where my scale had me at .6 loss. Normally there's only a .2 difference between my scale and the WW scale.
I was definitely annoyed. Thought maybe it was because it was a cold walk to weigh in maybe I was a wee frozen. Whatever I'm on to a new week.
The meeting itself was super packed, it's been a long time since I saw it this busy. I wonder if the new commercials and free registration brought in more people.
We had another sub and this time it was the leader from Black Diamond, that's an hour outside of Calgary. Hmm, I guess coverage for the 9:00 am meeting on a Saturday is hard to find.
The leader was really nice but incredibly underwhelming. We talked about salad dressing for 10 minutes. The someone had a question about how late is too late to eat. Questions are great but it kind of ran away with the meeting.
It drives me a little bananas when the leader starts quoting Dr. Oz. Last time I checked he was a heart surgeon who constantly recommends supplements on his show and doesn't work for Weight Watchers. Then when she was answering the "how late is too late to eat" she quoted Oprah. Oy vey.
After the meeting I zipped into Walmart to grab a few things I forgot yesterday which was primarily spinach. Then I went to Zumba.
I love this class so much, it's so much fun and a workout. I actually remembered some choreography today...baby steps. Plus I went to the middle of the class where I normally stay way at the back. It helped as I could see the instructor better.
Still loving my FitBit One, got over 17000 steps today and tried the silent alarm feature for the first time. The silent alarm is cool, it buzzes but it buzzes a little song so you feel it on your wrist when you're wearing the sleep sleeve. Now I've been wearing it on my dominant wrist this whole time and just found out the recommendation is to wear it on the non dominant wrist so I'll do that tonight and see if there's any difference.
I'm really intrigued by their new FitBit Flex but I'm happy to stay with FitBit One, one major reason the FitBit Flex doesn't have an altimeter like the One or Zip. The altimeter allows it tell if you're changing elevation/altitude like going up stairs or up a hill. Of course when you move your body up something that uses more energy. It can tell the difference between moving and standing still for example the altimeter doesn't work on a stair climber or treadmill on incline. The Flex has everything the One has except for that. The Flex can be worn on your wrist all the time so kind of cool for measuring sleep as you need to put the One in a sleeve that wraps around your wrist. I do like that FitBit One is subtle and no one can tell I'm wearing it.
Alright tomorrow is monster house cleaning and laundry olympics - hey I'll get stairs in.
Hope you had a great Saturday
Hugs!!!
